Irreconcilable Differences

Yes--it's true.  On January 20th, 2007 Governor Corzine signed a new piece of legislation which will enable New Jersey residents to divorce based upon six months of irreconcilable differences which have caused a "break down" of the marriage.

The signifigance of this new law is that neither party need state the specific reason for the divorce.  Neither party needs to take the blame.  New Jersey now joins the ranks of the "no fault" states, making it just a little bit easier to end a bad marriage.

Not everyone is happy about the change, but most people will be more comfortable filing divorce knowing that they can avoid publishing harsh allegations about their spouse.  Some things are better left unsaid.
